Description:
Essential oils are volatile oils characterized by: aromatic-smell; high refractive index (often optically active); low water solubility; liquid and volatile at ambient temperature; oxidize and resinify on exposure to light and air. Enfleurage involves steeping the flowers or aromatics in odorless oils or animal fat that are solid at room temperature until uptake of volatile oils in the fat layer. The flowers are removed after a few days and fresh ones are introduced until the fat is saturated with the aroma chemicals.
