Traditionnally, monoterpenoids are components, together with sesquiterpenoids and aromatics, of the plant essential oils. They are particularly associated in the plant with specialised secretory structures, such as oil cells, glandular hairs and resin ducts. Monoterpenoids can be classified according to the functionnal groups present. Thus they can be divided into: unsaturated hydrocarbons, alcohols, alcohol esters, aldehydes and ketones.
