A ""fixed oil"" is non-volatile and is usually prepared from herbal material (e.g. seeds) by pressing or by extraction with a non-polar solvent such as hexane. Fixed oils are composed of lipids or lipid-soluble carbohydrates and are prone to becoming rancid on oxidation.
